What if the devil was never a monster hiding beneath the earth, but rather parts of humanity we fear most? What if our ancestors were just trying to explain the chaos inside of us?

 Long before Greece, long before the bible was written, long before empires ruled, there stood a city like no other, Uruk. Its walls towered over lands, its temples stretched toward the heavens, and its people believed that the gods walked close to them. Over this city ruled a king and not just any king; this was a man said to be two-thirds god and one-third human, his name was Gilgamesh. Gilgamesh is powerful beyond measure; standing 18 feet tall, no man can match his strength. He builds the massive walls of Uruk himself, commands armies, and expands civilization. But power changed Gilgamesh, the same king who protects his people, also crushes them under his will. The people cry at night, the men are exhausted by his demands, families fear him, and no one can oppose him.

By the time we come to later religions, the focus shifts from what is destroying my crops or what is making me sick to what is destroying my soul. Now, demons become associated with pride, lust, envy, and temptation. “See, the war is never over; the battlefields just moved. There will always be a war, whether outward or within. You have to either fight it or flee for the rest of your life.”

Ancient Historical research tells us that before Israel was Israel, it was the land of the Canaanites, called Canaan around 3,000-2,500BCE. Now, monotheism isn’t a big thing at this point and the ancient people of the Levant, which would be that Israel/ / Palestine region today, were a polytheistic society. Their main God was El, the supreme father God, and if you take it back to pre-Hebraic times, it's believed that the word Israel means El strives, or El rules, somewhere along those lines, so even the name Israel began with ancient roots to El, not yet Yahweh. Now we will get deeper into Yahweh later because trust me, this is going to be a long one, but you’ll love it. Yahweh was essentially tied to storms, war and wilderness as a God varying based on tradition. 

Lifespans and longevity are among the strongest shared memories we have on Earth. This pattern shows up in every culture, even cultures that have supposedly not even come close to being in contact with each other. I think we may be missing something that they may have understood back then from a philosophical standpoint.

Quinametzin existed during the previous Suns or Sun, not the current one. Depending on the tradition or who you ask, they are mostly associated with either the first or the second sun. Now, let me explain, the Nahua cosmology is a different concept than most would think about cosmology today. They believe our world is going through cycles and the sun is just a star in the sky, but the framework for our system, representing a complete cosmic age, or the way reality works.

Somewhere you have ultimate spiritual fulfillment, somewhere that balance and harmony is maintained, somewhere suffering and pain doesn’t exist, somewhere something means nothing but to exist. This place is called Paradise.

The ancients had a more spiritual ideology of creation and we still do now, but we just kind of still go off of their ideology in all aspects. Let's go through some of the creation myths and see if maybe we can find something to bring enlightenment to this subject.

Many of us know the modern or biblical creation myth with Adam and Eve. Many of us have also heard the scientific stance of human creation based on humans belonging to the primate family and evolving over time to become what and who we are today. But do you know the other human creation myths? If not you might be surprised at the similarities that are shared between what we may believe today and what the ancient people believed.

Many of the ancient cultures learned about the flood seasons as we know them now and prepared for them. Some even built flood walls. Egyptians often welcomed the flood from the Nile as it fertilized their lands, but when things turn into a catastrophe, there isn’t much you can do, even to this day. A big question of interest to people like me is why floods are so common in myths.
